This video installation and performance makes a single project in relation to the practice that I produced under the name I went to wave the stone that is in the middle of the sea. Here, I zoom in so much that the video becomes unstable, moving to explore the sound of the stone together with the humming parts of the popular songs of the village.
Galician traditional music was transmitted orally, in a very fragmented way. The songs were made up of couplets without a necessary relationship. They were linked through abstract parts like Aialalá, aialelo aialalo or other variations. They point out a gap between content and content that I relate to the physical gap that actually made the stone wave.
The device where I project the film imitates a Galician tambourine. I apply on it the wax I use to make the instrument vibrate. In the performance, I use the metal sculpture to listen and replicate the Aialalá parts of the Alalá de Muxía mixed with the noise of the stone, until singing, at the end, the first couplet of the song.
