Sao Jaquinzinho da ilha (2021)

Each piece in this project corresponds to the state of the sea in Ons Island, Galiza, in a specific day, from August 24 to September 10, 2020. They have been generated in a 3D program from the data available at the island’s weather buoy. These are wind speed and direction, air temperature and wave height, direction, and wavelength.

In these days the dead tides began and ended, having this a relationship with the activity of a coastal area. That is why the title refers to a traditional seafaring song of the site, in which people ask the Saint Xaquín “to give wind in the stern to return healthy.”

The installation consists of both the 3D printed files and the digital images generated from them. Thus, I put in contact pictures where I had to make certain decisions, such as the color of the foam and the background, with sculptures in which I can barely intervene. This allowed me to start thinking about how the landscape is symbolized, to question how we end up generating sublime images when we refer to it, even though it is a work environment.
